One of my biggest pet peeves are people who don’t dress for the occasion. More specifically, habitual under-dressers. I wasn’t aware that dressing appropriately was a skill that needed to be mastered. My family has a reputation for dressing nicely but really, we dress accordingly. I was always told that it’s better to be overdressed than under-dressed but it seems like a lot of people think vice versa. There should be absolutely no reason to attend every celebratory occasion like you’re dressed for a barbecue. I think it’s extremely tasteless to show up in flip flops and jeans/shorts when everyone else is dressed like they put some effort into their appearance. What kills me the most is that I’ll arrive as a guest dressed up, while immediate family members of the party will be dressed in house clothes like it’s no big deal. Maybe I’m out of line and thinking too hard but I really feel like dressing down, waters down the occasion. Your appearance is a reflection of your attitude, in my opinion. So if you’re dressed like you don’t give a shit - obviously you don’t. It just really irks me when I’m all dolled up & walk into a room full of flip flops & beach clothes.

Learn to dress accordingly.
